Valuation $p$-adique

Si $n\geq 2$ et $p$ est un nombre premier, on appelle valuation $p$-adique de $n$, et on note $v_p(n)$, le plus grand entier $k\geq 0$ tel que $p^k|n$.

La valuation $p$-adique de $n$ est l'exposant de $p$ dans la décomposition en produit de facteurs premiers de $n$. Elle est utile pour calculer le pgcd et le ppcm de deux entiers $a$ et $b$ : si $p_1,\dots,p_r$ sont les nombres premiers intervenant dans les décompositions de $a$ et $b$, alors \begin{eqnarray*} a\wedge b&=&p_1^{\min(v_{p_1}(a),v_{p_1}(b))}\cdots p_r^{\min(v_{p_r}(a),v_{p_r}(b))}\\ a\vee b&=&p_1^{\max(v_{p_1}(a),v_{p_1}(b))}\cdots p_r^{\max(v_{p_r}(a),v_{p_r}(b))}. \end{eqnarray*}

Valuation d'un polynôme

Si $P(X)=a_0+a_1X+\dots+a_n X^n$ est un polynôme non-nul, la valuation de $P$ est le plus petit entier $k$ tel que $a_k\neq 0$. Autrement dit, si $k$ est la valuation de $P$, alors $a_k\neq 0$ et $P$ s'écrit $P(X)=a_k X^k+\dots+a_n X^n$.

Valuation sur un anneau

Soit $(A,+,\times)$ un anneau commutatif non nul. On appelle valuation de $A$ une application de $A$ vers un groupe abélien totalement ordonné $( G , + , <)\cup\{\infty\}$ vérifiant les propriétés suivantes :

  • $ \forall x\in A,\ v(x)=\infty \Longleftrightarrow x=0$;
  • $ \forall x,y\in A,\ v(xy)=v(x)+v(y) ;$
  • $ \forall x,y\in A,\ v(x+y)\geqslant \min(v(x),v(y)).$

La valuation est dite discrète si le groupe $G$ est $\mathbb Z$.

Si $v$ est une valuation sur $A,$ alors on a les propriétés suivantes :

  • $v(1) = v(-1) = 0$ ;
  • Pour tous $x,y \in A,$ $v(x-y) \geq\min{v(x),v(y)}$ avec égalité si $v(x)\neq v(y)$ ;
  • $A$ est intègre ;
  • il existe une unique valuation $w$ sur le corps des fractions $\textrm{Frac}(A)$ qui prolonge $v$ : pour tout $p/q \in \textrm{Frac}(A),$ $w(p/q) = v(p) - v(q)$.
