Règle des signes de Descartes

La règle des signes de Descartes est une méthode pour déterminer le nombre de racines positives d'un polynôme. On compte le nombre de changements de signes dans les coefficients en partant du monôme de plus haut degré jusqu'au monôme de plus bas degré. Si $n$ est le nombre de changements de signes, alors $n$ est le nombre maximum de racines positives, et s'il n'y a pas exactement $n$ racines, alors il y en a $n-2$, ou $n-4,\dots$

Ex : Considérons le polynôme $P(X)=X^7+2X^6-3X^5-X^2+7X-8$. Alors il y a 3 changements de signes dans la liste des coefficients. Le poynôme $P$ admet donc ou bien trois racines positives ou bien une racine positive.
