Théorème de Berry-Esseen

Soit $(X_n)$ une suite de variables aléatoires indépendantes identiquement distribuées, admettant une espérance et une variance. On pose : $$\mu=E(X_1),\ \sigma^2=\textrm{Var}(X_1)$$ $$S_n=X_1+\cdots+X_n,\ Y_n=\frac{S_n-n\mu}{\sigma\sqrt n}.$$ D'après le théorème limite central, la suite $(Y_n)$ converge en loi vers une variable aléatoire suivant une loi normale centrée réduite. Le théorème de Berry-Esseen permet de majorer précisément l'erreur commise en remplaçant la fonction de répartition de $Y_n$ par celle de la loi normale.

Théorème : Soit $(X_n)$ une suite de variables indépendantes identiquement distribuées, admettant des moments jusqu'à l'ordre $3.$ On pose : $$\mu=E(X_1),\ \sigma^2=\textrm{Var}(X_1),\ M_3=E(|X_1-\mu|^3)$$ $$S_n=X_1+\cdots+X_n,\ Y_n=\frac{S_n-n\mu}{\sigma\sqrt n}.$$ Pour $n\geq 1$, soit $F_n$ la fonction de répartition de $Y_n$ et soit $F$ la fonction de répartition d'une variable aléatoire normale centrée réduite. Alors, pour tout $x\in\mathbb R$ et pour tout $n\geq 1,$ on a : $$|F_n(x)-F(x)|\leq 0,\!4784 \frac{M_3}{\sigma^3\sqrt n}.$$
Le théorème de Berry-Esseen a été découvert indépendamment par les mathématiciens Andrew Berry en 1941 et Carl-Gustav Esseen en 1942, avec une constante moins bonne que 0,4784. Cette constante est due à Asof en 2011.
